"Why is Australia in Eurovision?" was the sixth most popular "why is...?" search in Australia in 2016, according to Google's data.

It was preceded by choice questions such as "Why is my internet so slow?" not to mention the perennial faves, "Why is the sky blue?" and "Why is my poop green?"

While overall searches were pretty predictable -- everyone was concerned with the U.S. election, the Olympics and the Census -- things got weirder in the more existential sections.

The most searched "what is...?" questions start basic and then go real deep. What is love, indeed?
