In celebration of Sesame Street's 50th anniversary,Student Wife (2016) the folks behind the upcoming Sesame Streetmovie have given us a little bit of information about the mysterious, long-in-the-works feature.
Anne Hathaway, who was approached about starring in the film last, has been confirmed to still be involved by writer and director Jonathan Krisel in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
SEE ALSO: How to get to Sesame Street — and do some good at the same timeAccording to Krisel, who has written for Portlandia, Saturday Night Live, and Baskets, the feature-length project will be a musical (classic Sesame Street) in which characters get lost all around New York City and have to make their way back to the titular street. It kind of sounds like it could be a mix between Home Alone 2and Madagascar, but with Muppets.
By the time the movie comes out, it's possible that there will actually be a street in New York City named Sesame Street. The Hollywood Reporternoted in its cover story about Sesame Streetthat the city will be naming a Manhattan street after the show, although right now the location of the street is unknown.
We don't know much else about the movie, like who's getting lost and where they'll end up, but honestly that's not a problem for Muppet fans — just that fact that there's a movie on the way is enough.
Krisel said that production on the yet-to-be-titled Sesame Streetmovie will begin this summer.
